Adam Estrada Hamilton was born on Sunday June 21st, 2009. Happy Father's Day, Ryan!

"Adam" is a Biblical name meaning "earth" and "mankind." May our little Adam live in support of our earth, humanity, and harmony between the two. What better way to start, than to be born on the summer solstice! For those who'd like the details...

At 11:37 on Saturday night, Sarah wakes up feeling the first big contraction. By the fifth contraction, Ryan is on the phone trying to convince our nearby hospital not to divert us to a hospital farther away. Before we leave the house, Sarah is already pushing (and screaming) involuntarily and she can already feel the baby's head crowning. We arrive at the emergency room without Sarah's water breaking (THANK GOD), and Ryan wheels her (screaming) past all the people in the ER waiting area.

She pushes once... A doctor says, "The head is out!"

She pushes a second time... "The shoulders are out!"

She pushes a third time... And Adam is born at 12:43 a.m., 20 inches long, weighing 6 pounds and 7 ounces. It has been 66 minutes since Sarah's first contraction and maybe 3 minutes since our arrival at the ER.

One doctor turns to another and says, "That was awesome!" Soon the ER waiting room erupts with cheers.
